How do you wait?

The space between ‘making war’ and ‘living free’

Wanting something without being willing to wait for it is a sign of entitlement.  It is a poison of our generation.  It is a subtle elixir of the world’s system.  Just because the Israelite’s took control of an enemy stronghold did not mean they were in the promised land.

The space between making war and living in the promise land of freedom is the hardest place to exist.  It is where we are tempted to grumble.  To give up hope.  To question the goodness of the One who brought us out of the land of Egypt.  It is where we rationalize the misdeeds of our flesh.  It is where we measure ourselves by the standards of those around us, seeking to be ‘better than them’, rather than clinging to our destiny as free sons of the Holy One.

At a bus stop, some wait anxiously wondering if they will miss the bus… some fall asleep and miss the bus… some simply trust the bus will come when it is good and ready… some read and disconnect from what’s happening around them.  But nomatter how they wait, what they wait for WILL COME – the question is how are they waiting?  Will they miss the bus?  (Ok, I guess the bus could not show up because the driver fell asleep or crashed… common, don’t get all “yeah, but…” on me!)  The worst way to wait is to fall asleep.  Passive waiting.  The only fruit of waiting that way is to miss what was promised.

Sleeping while you wait is to miss your ticket to freedom.  And it IS the will of God that you punch your ticket to freedom!  How do I know?

1 Thessalonians 4:3-6
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister.

Men – it is time we learn how to wait, trust the One we are waiting on, and believe God for the promises and the Promised Land He has for you!

Don’t fall asleep while you wait.  Don’t miss the moment.  WAKE UP! the Bible says.  It is time to Rise from the dead ways of your sin and walk in the Light!  You only wait for what you believe is coming.  It is impossible to ‘wait’ for something that 1) has arrived or 2) you don’t believe is coming.  Right?  If you don’t believe it will come, you walk away and stop ‘waiting’ for it… I believe each of you are in this journey because you know in your heart of hearts that ‘He who promised is faithful!’  Common men!  Let God’s Word and the voice of His Spirit become FIRE to our souls!  Behold NOW is the accepted time, Behold NOW is the day of salvation! (2 Cor 6:2)

War!  Wait!  Live Free!
